The jury is still deliberating on Optus Stadium as a Test venue with the pitch a work in progress and posing risks to the batters. Former Test batter Mark Waugh called the pitch “treacherous” and batters took 18 blows during the match’s course. Despite marketing as the “West Test,” the stadium was not close to half-full for any of the four days. Optus Stadium may have better facilities, but it is not a better option for non-marquee Tests. Mitchell Marsh was a star but David Warner should have been awarded as the player of the match. Nathan Lyon has established himself as Australia’s best off-spinner after crossing the milestone of taking 500 wickets. Marnus Labuschagne’s recent form slump is not a worrying sign for selectors. Pakistan showed potential with limited resources in the recent Test. Their fielding and batting could be improved. Their series finale against Australia is not likely to go in their favor.
