Eddie Jones Confirmed as Japan’s Official Coach

Eddie Jones has been confirmed as the next head coach of Japan’s rugby team, the Brave Blossoms. This comes just three months after he denied any association with the Japan Rugby Football Union regarding the coaching position. Despite the denial, the JRFU announced his appointment less than a week after he interviewed for the role. Jones will appear at a media conference on Thursday alongside new JRFU president, Masato Tsuchida. This will be Jones’ third international coaching job in 12 months, following stints with England and the Wallabies. His return has divided opinion in Japan, with many still critical of his management of the team. Nonetheless, Jones and Tsuchida have a longstanding association through their work at Suntory. This announcement marks the end of a turbulent year for Jones, who resigned from his role as Wallabies coach after a series of underwhelming results. His appointment has left many former Wallabies players angry, and it remains to be seen how it will impact rugby relations between Australia and Japan.
