After spending the last six weeks away from Australian rugby, 63-year-old Eddie Jones is making a return to the Japanese head coaching position. Jones has reportedly beaten South African’s Frans Ludeke for the position, and the only thing needed to finalize his appointment is board approval, which is expected to happen on December 13. Chris Webb, the former Wallabies manager, is also set to join Jones at the JFRU. Jones had previously held the position from 2012 to 2015, and his return comes after he resigned from his role as Wallabies coach in late October. Jones oversaw one of rugby’s greatest upsets when his Brave Blossoms defeated the Springboks in their 2015 World Cup opener. His return to the Japanese head coaching role has been shrouded in controversy, particularly in his sudden resignation from Rugby Australia after leading the Wallabies to a disappointing World Cup.
