Wallaby Bernard Foley’s Kubota Spears Tokyo Bay in Japan’s club rugby suffered a 52-26 defeat from Tokyo Sungoliath in their title defence. Sungoliath winger Seiya Ozaki scored a hat-trick, while younger brother Taiga scored twice in the win. The defeat came as a blow to Spears coach Frans Ludeke, who reportedly lost the Japan coaching role to Eddie Jones. South African Frans Ludeke is reportedly vying for the position with Jones, who coached the Sungoliath. Other teams in the league also had strong performances, including the Swirling Knights, who won 53-12, and Kobe Steelers, who won 80-15.
