Eddie Jones has wasted no time getting settled back in Japan, with the former Wallabies coach interviewing for the Brave Blossoms role on Thursday, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. The 63-year-old arrived at the Royal Park Hotel in Tokyo on Thursday morning for the interview, which was attended by JFRU president Matsato Tsuchida and chairman Kensuke Iwabuchi. The JFRU will likely name Jamie Joseph’s successor before the new year. Jones is the strong favorite for the role after presiding over Japan’s famous 34-32 win over the Springboks at the 2015 World Cup. Last month, Jones expressed his interest in the role after resigning as Wallabies coach, but vehemently denied any link to the role and said he was committed to the Wallabies. However, after the World Cup final, Jones told Rugby Australia of his intention to resign. Wallabies center Lalakai Foketi said he would be “hurt” if Jones took over as Japan coach, but also praised his work ethic. Wallabies teammate Angus Bell expressed disappointment at Jones’s departure from Australian rugby.
