Ben Hunt shocked everyone when he announced his desire to leave the Dragons midway through last year. He had been carrying the team for years and was close to the coach who had just been let go. The captain had extended his deal thinking his coach would stay. However, a raft of defeats followed and the coach left, and Shane Flanagan was named to take over from 2024 onwards. Hunt publicly expressed his desire to move to Queensland but ultimately decided to stay put until 2024. The Dragons have not made a finals appearance since 2018, but it would be unfair to blame the halfback. The team’s run metres and total sets per game have been poor. Despite this, Hunt is staying in the Red V, and the team will need to support him if they want to succeed. Shane Flanagan has to make some changes to improve the team’s attack and make the most of the talent in the team. If the Dragons want to succeed, everyone else will need to pull their weight.
